SOUND INSULATION, BUILT INTO THE WALL

Soundproofing walls in Cyprus.
Build in more quiet.

Keep everyday noise from becoming part of everyday life. Silka calcium silicate blocks bring mass, strength and sound insulation to homes, apartments and hotels.

Silka is a brand of Germany-based Xella, part of the Swiss Holcim Group. Supplied in Cyprus by Arvit Services Ltd.

01 / START WITH YOUR SPACE

Where would you like
more quiet?

Choose a wall system around the noise source, available space and the demands of your project.

01

Between rooms

Create separation between a bedroom, living room or home office. The 115 mm block is a compact starting point for internal partition design.

02

Between apartments & hotel rooms

Plan privacy into the building from the start. Review 175 mm or 200 mm masonry, or an engineered lining system, against the required acoustic performance.

03

Between indoors & the street

Combine dense Silka masonry with a designed thermal insulation system. Windows, doors and ventilation openings also need acoustic attention.

02 / UNDERSTAND THE PERFORMANCE

A quieter room starts
with the whole wall.

Silka is dense calcium silicate masonry, made from sand, lime and water. Its mass helps reduce airborne sound transmission. The finished wall’s performance also depends on its plaster, connections, openings and workmanship.

03 / MORE THAN SOUND INSULATION

Solid reasons to
specify Silka.

Non-combustible material

The blocks have reaction-to-fire class A1. The fire resistance of a complete wall must be checked for its exact construction and loading.

Strength for demanding spaces

The listed blocks have compressive strengths of 10 or 15 MPa. Structural use, connections and seismic detailing are selected by the project engineer.

Space-conscious partitions

Block thicknesses start at 115 mm. Compare complete finished wall systems to balance room area, acoustic requirements and structural loads.

Thermal mass

Dense masonry can store heat and help moderate temperature changes as part of a designed building. External walls still need a suitable thermal insulation strategy.

Mineral composition

Sand, lime and water form the basis of calcium silicate blocks. A straightforward mineral material for robust, long-term masonry.

Accurate masonry

Tongue-and-groove blocks and dimensional accuracy support orderly installation. Use the specified mortar, fixings and finishing details for the wall system.

08 / YOUR QUESTIONS

Sound insulation,
explained clearly.

Can Silka help reduce noise between apartments?

Silka masonry can form part of a separating wall designed to reduce airborne noise such as speech or television. The required result depends on the whole assembly, adjoining floors and walls, penetrations and installation. Choose the construction with your designer using the relevant test report.

What do 53, 56 and 58 dB actually mean?

These are laboratory Rw ratings for specific plastered wall assemblies, not for a loose block. The test walls include 20 mm plaster on each side. A higher Rw indicates greater weighted airborne sound insulation in that test. Field performance and low-frequency noise need separate assessment.

Is Silka an acoustic panel or sound-absorbing foam?

No. Silka is masonry used to build walls. Its mass helps limit sound passing through the construction. Absorbing panels mainly control reflections and reverberation within a room; they address a different acoustic task.

Can I use it to soundproof an existing bedroom?

Possibly, but first check the source and path of the noise and the floor’s capacity for added weight. An additional masonry wall takes floor space. Noise through ceilings, floors, windows or structural connections may need other measures.

Does Silka also provide thermal insulation?

Silka provides thermal mass, but it is not a substitute for a dedicated thermal insulation layer. For external walls in Cyprus, design the complete build-up, including insulation such as Multipor where appropriate, windows and junctions.

Is 70 dB possible?

Xella describes enhanced wall systems with additional linings reaching up to 70 dB. This is a complete system specification, not the standard rating of a bare Silka block or any wall built from it. Ask for the exact tested build-up and supporting report before specifying that performance.

How much do Silka blocks cost in Cyprus?

Request a project quote. The price depends on the block type, quantity, delivery location and order conditions. Send your net wall area or plans so that materials, accessories, transport and VAT can be identified clearly.
